Press release | ||||||||||||||||
The Caribbean Crucible, one of the most listened to and longest running reggae shows heard on CHRY105.5 fm has just honored Steele with the distinction of "Male Artist for the year 2007". Steele was humble in receiving this honor, and thanked the show host Mr. Luther Brown and the entire community for their continued support. Steele started 2007 with the release of his sophomore cd "The Love of Jah" which produced hits such as "Confession", "Slave Driver", and "New World". He was engaged with many live performces both locally and internationally, and ended the year with the very popular release "Another Confrontation" on the Lloyd Campbell produced Chi Chi Bud riddim. The sky is the limit for the artist dubbed the Canadian Reggae Sensation, and he continues to reach for it. One Love,
Clad in his Rebel Unit outfit, Steele emerged on stage at the Tru Juice Rebel Salute 15th Anniversary Celebration with a burst of energy. Blazing the lyrics of "Betta Mus Come", the impact from the seasoned performer was immediately evident as the thousands in attendance waved banners and sang along with him. Backed by Tony Rebel’s very competent band, Team Band, and harmonized by the ladies of the singing group LMJ, Steele wasted little time in delivering his current MVP top ten hit "New World". The song, which has grown in popularity, again drew a huge response from the audience and is a true testament to the never ending efforts being put forth by Steele and his management team to excel to the highest level possible. "Just Incredible", best describes Steele’s deliverance of his Bob Marley remake "Slave Driver", says one news reporter. His command of this song is breathtaking and his belief is evident with every emotion displayed. Although he did not have the time to perform requested songs such as "Another Confrontation" or "Shining Star", Steele’s Tru Juice Rebel Salute 2K Love performance will be remembered by all who witnessed it. Unity Splash, held just over a week earlier was very similar for Steele. There again he displayed his showmanship and comfort in delivering both socially relevant material and engaging the female fans with his smooth lovers rock deliverance. His remake of "Shining Star", on the ever popular taxi riddim, drew a huge forward for him, and once again Steele left the stage with his heart felt rendition of "Slave Driver". When asked about his never ending development, Steele was quick to point out that he is just a vessel of the people, the real stars are the people, and they decide who will make it and who won’t. If this is the pattern to be expected from Steele, in no time the Canadian based singer will be a house hold name globally. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two reggae acts, currently on top of their game, have come together to create magic on screen. Queen Ifrica, affectionately called the "fyah muma", riding high on a number of hit songs which include "Below the Waist" and "Daddy Don’t Touch Me There", and Steele the ever energetic and charismatic artist with hits such as "Slave Driver" and "Confession", have put their heart and soul into bringing to life their current duet "New World (remix)". The different passions that this song brings out are displayed on screen and there is no mystery as to why this music video is already creating quite a buzz. Shot mostly at the fishing village in Portmore Jamaica, where it seemed as though the entire community came out to support these artists, it was a day that was filled with genuine togetherness from all. Steele and Queen Ifrica could be seen reasoning with the many men, women and children that had gathered for the shoot, and the love could be felt. The song "New World (remix)" is currently receiving steady rotation on radio and this video will most definitely help to build its momentum.
On the other side of the globe, the Netherlands to be exact, "The Love of Jah" has been added to the Reggae Vibes Show Top 50 album recommendations. The program, hosted by Teacher and Mr. T. is aired on CRM RADIO 102.7fm in that country. The cd has entered the chart at number 31 and with steady rotation upward movement is expected. In Canada, "New World (straight mix)" another cut from "The Love of Jah", sits at the number 3 spot on CBC’s Galaxie Reggae Top Canadian Spins. Canada - Home of Steele: Steele says: "It’s amazing how time has passed, and how things have developed, I still remember the first time I played with the band Tatix, what a joy. I remember sweating at the Bamboo Club and feeling the energy from my fans. I also remember the first time my music was played on radio, what a blessing. Now let’s forward to today. I still cherish the opportunity that Tatix gave me, I still love to perform, actually it’s my high. From nightclubs to big festivals, it really doesn’t matter. I love to perform. I truly respect all the radio personalities across Canada and the rest of the world, that take the time to play my music, and to all other media personnel who continue to support my work, I am forever grateful. Mostly, to my fans that have stood by me and encouraged me to keep striving for greatness, you are the reason why I do what I do. Maximum respect every time, I am still pressing on. Canada is my home."
Steele’s sophomore cd "The Love of Jah" has made its entry on Jamaica’s Music Countdown Top Ten Albums/CD charts, while his duet "New World (Remix)" with Queen Ifrica has been featured on Stampede’s Street Charts. This is a remarkable feat for an artist residing in Canada. In recent months MOBS Production has been working relentlessly in promoting the artist to that market. Steele’s live performances, TV and radio interviews have made a lasting impression on the people of Jamaica and they have started to show their love and appreciation for the music being delivered by this lyrically conscious brother. Just recently, Steele’s performance on the Peter Tosh Birthday Celebration was hailed as one of those that stood out for many fans and media alike. His interviews on radio stations such as Irie fm and Linkz fm afforded Steele the opportunity to speak with fans one on one about his development. His live TV performance on TVJ, one of the country’s national network has had many talking about his raw energy. With this, accompanied by two very well orchestrated music videos, recently produced by Fabrikated ProjeX, Steele’s quest to impact the world with his music while residing in Canada is being made a reality, and the inclusion in Jamaica’s music chart is a major step in that direction. Steele CD Hits Top 20 on the Italian Reggae Charts "The Love of Jah" has made its way on to the Top 20 Under Pressure Reggae Charts. The radio show Under Pressure is aired on TPN radio in Italy and simulcast in America on Caribbean Vibes radio. This program plays a major role in connecting many Europeans to the world of reggae music. Steele was blessed to have his first CD "Uncorrupted" make it on to the Gusma-T’s run Top 20 charts, and this was instrumental in earning him an invitation to Rototom Reggae Festival, Italy’s biggest Reggae Festival. Steele says, "Thanks for the continued support you have shown me, I sincerely realize that without your love I’m nothing. My endeavor is not to stray from the formula that has brought me this far, and that is 110% positivity everytime." "THE LOVE OF JAH IS HERE TO STAY" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Below are some of the articles that said it best when referring to Steele’s performance at the recently held Peter Tosh Birthday Celebration in western Jamaica. The artist dubbed the Canadian Sensation was in great form in front of an estimated 10,000 plus that came together to celebrate the earthstrong of one of reggae’s most legendary artist, and for sure it was a night to be remembered. Many said the deliverance and interaction from Steele was brilliant, especially when delivering songs such as "Slave Driver" and "Confession", in which Steele engaged the huge gathering in a question and answer period. Steele asked the women and men if they would ever confess about something they had done outside their relationship. With the overwhelming response of "no" that came from the audience, Steele concluded that since Jamaicans were not the type of people to cheat on there mates, no confession of any type would ever be necessary. This statement drew a huge "forward" from all in attendance. Steele ended his impressive set with "Betta Mus Come" and the reaction from the audience said it all. The Jamaica Gleaner - Western Focus "Steele, who flew in from Canada at his own expense to do the show, introduced himself with a brilliant cover of Bob Marley's Slave Driver, and went on to stamp his class with You Have Lost that Love, Better Must Come and the thought-provoking Confession." The Jamaica Star (Jamaica Issue) "The Canadian-based singer Steele, who spoke of the inspiration he got from Tosh, also played a brilliant set. In what was a standout performance, he was especially brilliant in his cover of Bob Marley's Slave Driver which had the patrons transfixed as full range was unveiled as the lyrics caressed the night." The Jamaica Gleaner (Jamaica Issue) "Steele
was a bungle of energy and charisma. After introducing himself with his
brilliant cover of Bob Marley’s Slave Driver, he simply went into
overdrive, creating musical joy as he danced and pranced around the stage,
belting out songs such as You Have Lost That Love, Better Must Come and
the thought-provoking Confession" The conclusion has been made, these videos are a Must See! Directed by Wayne Benjamin of Fabrikated ProjeX, "The New World (remix)" which features Steele and Queen Ifrica and "Goose and Ganda" featuring Steele will grab your attention for their entirety. by: Basil Walters, Jamaica Observer staff reporter, for Tuesday, September
25, 2007 In a telephone interview from Canada, Steele confirmed what was first disclosed by promoter Worrell King, that his participation would be free. "Steele is flying in from Canada for the concert for free because of his commitment to the music and his respect for Peter Tosh," King told the Observer a month ago. Contacted during the course of the week, Steele admitted to his lifelong admiration for the "Steppin Razor" (as Tosh was widely known) and his determination to help in the preservation of the legacy of an artiste from whom he garnered much inspiration. "Yes, most definitely, I'll be there for the Peter Tosh tribute, his earthstrong (birthday) celebration which is October 19. When the request came, payment was not even an issue. It's something I'm doing from the bottom of my heart, I want to be a part of," said Steele during his explanation of why he wants to identify with the event at any cost. "Peter Tosh," Steele added, "was so influential to me in so many different ways. People following my history, there is one I've always spoken about, Peter Tosh being an influential part of my career. Because, y'know, when it comes on to his lyrical content, it was so-called controversial. And when I say so-called, I have to stress the so-called, because I personally have always felt if a person is telling you what's on his mind it shouldn't necessarily be called controversial because you don't agree with it. That's his opinion, that's his strength of thought, that's what he believes in. It's not controversial, it's straight-up talk. That's what he believes in and that's what he is going to stand by." (Excerpts
from the article published by the Jamaica Observer on Sept 25, 2007) MOBS Production and Jamaica’s Energy Beat Distribution have come to terms in their efforts to make Steele’s music available to record outlets throughout Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean. Steele has been enjoying steady airplay on the island and the request for his music is on the rise, making it available on cd locally is a definite step in the right direction. "THE
LOVE OF JAH" is distributed worldwide online at www.steelemusic.net
or www.ebreggae.com
it is also now available at two of New York’s leading record and
cd outlets, Moodies Records and Tony Ryan Records. Make sure to pick up
